My name is Trina Gillis, I was born June 15 1977. The most unique thing about me is I have the most amazing twin sister in the world. LINK TO HER WEBSITEGrowing up I was always a bit of a tomboy, I rode horses and was athletic. I still am very much a tomboy. I love to snow board in the winter, in the summer I love pretty much any outdoor activities, especially playing baseball and rollerblading, now living in the Cayman Islands I am hoping to learn to windsurf, kite board, and scuba dive. I started lifting weights when I was 13. My mom bought me my first 5lb dumbbells, I remember they where white in colour. Of course I really had no idea what I was doing with them but every night I had a routine I would go through, doing dumbbell curls and whatever else I could come up with. When I was 16 my mom bought me my first gym membership, boy was I intimidated walking into the gym for the first time. It was a tiny little gym full of mostly boys, but I was ready and willing to do whatever they told me. That was where I saw my first copy of a bodybuilding magazine and saw my first picture of Lenda Murray. I think that is where my dream of bodybuilding began. |

GET FIT QUICK
Need to shape up in a hurry? Use these six tips from two-time Figure Olympia queen Jenny Lynn to get dialed in
By Eric Velazquez with Jenny Lynn
1. Minimize carbohydrates from your diet. Stick with carbs only in your first meal when your body is primed to use those carbs for energy rather than fat storage. For the rest of the day, stick to protein and veggies.
2. Increase and then deplete your water intake. Start drinking as much water as possible, up to a gallon, everyday. Having made a note of how much water you're averaging, cut that amount in half two days before your event or target date. The day before your target date, cut that amount in half. And the day of your target date, drink as little as you can, sipping here and there. "You should drink as little as you can without feeling ill," Jenny says.
3. Cut sodium. Two days before your event cut out as much sodium from your diet as possible. Salt will result in water retention at a time when you're cutting your water, dehydrating you further. |

FOUR GET-LEAN NUTRITION STRATEGIES
Want to torch more bodyfat ASAP? Of course you do. These four nutritional tips will help you get leaner right away
By Joe Wuebben
Everyone knows that if you're looking to burn more bodyfat, you need to train harder and smarter. But there's still a stubborn contingent of you out there that refuse to acknowledge the role diet plays in your efforts. What you eat can, in fact, ruin your shot at a lean, shapely physique.
Use this four tips to start building a foundation of fitness in the kitchen!
1 Feast on fiber for breakfast.
Along with protein and healthy fat, you'll want a complex carbohydrate at most meals, especially breakfast. We suggest two slices of whole-wheat toast to accompany your eggs or whey protein shake in the morning. Two reasons: (1) sustained energy for the next several hours, as whole grains digest slowly and feed your brain and muscles gradually, and (2) the fiber present in 100% whole wheat has been shown to aid fat loss and keep you feeling full so you don't overeat. |

Have you ever gained 22 pounds in 11 hours? Have you ever dramatically improved your strength in a single day just from changing your diet? Well I have. In my last Bodybuilding.com article I detailed my bulking diet and how I followed up a carbohydrate depletion period with a day where I consumed only fruit juice to create a glycogen supercompensation effect.
So What Is Glycogen Supercompensation?
Glycogen supercompensation is when your muscles are able to hold a greater amount of glycogen than they normally would be able to. They will not only appear fuller and more pumped, but they will also have plenty of fuel to work hard.
Muscles need energy to contract. The muscles use ATP for energy, but ATP stores are quickly depleted. At first the body will create ATP by having creatine phosphate donate a phosphate molecule to ADP, but creatine phosphate is also depleted quickly. For the muscles to continue to work over longer periods of time, ATP must be created from muscle glycogen through glycolysis. Therefore, the more glycogen the muscles can hold, the more ATP can be produced for anaerobic muscle contraction. |
